Diani Beach

Diani has excellent hotels and resorts, world-class kitesurfing, and a coral garden teeming with marine life. It’s the most popular beach for safari-beach combinations.
Watamu
A quieter, more bohemian alternative north of Mombasa. Watamu Marine National Park is one of East Africa’s finest snorkelling and diving destinations, with a flourishing coral reef. Whale sharks pass through seasonally (November–January). The beach is beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed.
Malindi
Kenya’s oldest established coastal resort town, with a mix of Swahili architecture, Italian influence, and excellent water sports. Malindi Marine National Park offers superb diving. Less pristine beach than Diani but excellent food and culture.
Lamu Archipelago
Kenya’s most atmospheric and remote coastal destination — a UNESCO World Heritage island town where no cars exist and donkeys roam narrow coral-stone alleyways. Lamu’s beaches are exquisite and the Swahili culture is unlike anywhere else in Kenya. Usually reached by short flight from Nairobi or Mombasa. In Lamu, Shela Beach is the best place to stay as it has the beach unlike Lamu Old Town.
Tiwi Beach
Between Mombasa and Diani, quieter and more affordable than Diani, with a similar reef-protected beach. Popular with budget travellers and those seeking solitude.
Kilifi
Unlike traditional mass-tourism hubs, Kilifi attracts a thriving community of artists, wellness practitioners, and entrepreneurs. The town hosts some of the most vibrant New Year and wellness festivals in East Africa. Events like Beneath the Baobabs draw huge numbers of visitors and international DJs to celebrate by the creek. The town offers fewer large hotels than neighboring Watamu or Diani, but boasts a fantastic selection of private rentals, eco-lodges, and boutique guesthouses.
