Four days. One of the most photographed landscapes on Earth. Amboseli is where Africa’s last great tuskers — elephants with enormous, ivory-heavy tusks, studied by scientists for over fifty years — drift across dusty plains beneath the snows of Mount Kilimanjaro. At dawn, when the clouds part and the mountain stands naked against the sky, elephants wade into the seasonal swamps in family herds, calves tucked between the legs of their mothers. It is, quite simply, the definitive safari image. This itinerary is built for maximum time in front of that view: fly in, three nights in camp, and game drives timed around the mountain’s moods. Short enough for a long weekend, rich enough to feel like a real safari. Land, look, and let Amboseli do the rest.

You’ll be met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport — or collected from your Nairobi hotel — and transferred to Wilson Airport for your morning scheduled flight. Less than an hour later, the city is gone and the plains of Maasailand stretch out below you.
Land at the Amboseli airstrip, where your guide is waiting. The game drive starts immediately: this is your first sight of the great dust plains, the acacia woodlands, and — if the clouds behave — Kilimanjaro rising above everything, impossibly large on the horizon.
After lunch and a short rest at camp, head out for an afternoon game drive as the heat fades. Amboseli’s elephants move toward the swamps in the late afternoon — follow them, and watch the light go gold behind the mountain.
Sundowners in the bush, then dinner at camp. Tomorrow begins at dawn — the mountain’s best hour.

Rise before sunrise. This is the moment Amboseli was made for — the mountain is at its clearest in the cold of early morning, before clouds wrap the summit, and the elephants are already on the move.
Morning game drive through the park’s famous swamplands. Enkongo Narok and the other seasonal swamps hold water year-round, drawing elephant families in their dozens — matriarchs leading, calves splashing, big bulls feeding at the reed edges. Your guide knows these families individually; many carry tusks that trace back generations of research and protection.
Return to camp for a late breakfast and a midday rest — swim, nap, or watch the dust devils spin across the dry lake bed from the shade of your tent.
Late afternoon game drive across the open plains: lion prides resting up after a night’s hunting, cheetah scanning from termite mounds, giraffe moving through the acacias, and hyena patrolling the fringes.

A final full day to put your own signature on the trip.
Morning game drive with a visit to Observation Hill — a volcanic mound you can climb on foot, the one place in the park where walking is allowed. From the top, the panorama is complete: the swamps glinting with elephants, the dry lake bed shimmering to the horizon, and Kilimanjaro presiding over it all. Bring the camera; this is the postcard view.
Afternoon options: one more game drive into the golden light, or a visit to a nearby Maasai manyatta — Amboseli lies at the heart of Maasailand, and this is a genuine cultural exchange, not a performance. Traditional dances, a walk through the homestead, and the chance to shop directly from local artisans.
Farewell dinner at camp under a sky crowded with stars — and, on clear nights, the mountain’s silhouette against the Milky Way.

One last dawn drive — the mountain’s finest hour, and the elephants usually oblige with a farewell procession across the plains.
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. Arrive in time for onward connections — or, if your schedule allows, a stop at the Giraffe Centre, lunch in the city, or a visit to the elephant orphanage before your evening flight. For late departures we recommend adding a Nairobi night; we’ll book it.
Transfer to JKIA for your departure. The mountain, and the elephants, stay with you.
Elephant Gorge Camp (Amboseli) Sweeping Kilimanjaro views and direct access to prime elephant territory. When you’re truly one with the wild, every moment in nature becomes a story, every safari an adventure, and every guest part of something larger. Some rooms feature private plunge pools.
Praro Camp Amboseli (Amboseli) A comfortable, well-positioned camp with excellent game-viewing access and the stunning backdrop of Kilimanjaro. Warm service, good food and the same unforgettable elephants on the doorstep.
January – February: The short dry season and the photographer’s favourite window — Kilimanjaro is at its clearest, wildlife concentrates around the swamps, and crowds are moderate.
June – October: The main dry season. Superb game viewing, dust-dramatic skies, and the mountain increasingly visible through the cooler months. July–October is peak — book early.
November – December: Short rains. The park greens up beautifully, birding peaks with migrants, and rates drop. The mountain hides more often, but the light is dramatic.
April – May: Long rains — tracks can become difficult and the mountain is usually clouded. Not recommended for this itinerary.
Amboseli National Park
Easy: Game drives across all days — relaxed, seated, suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Easy: Observation Hill — a short, gentle climb on foot to the viewpoint. Optional; the alternative is viewing from the vehicle.
Optional: Maasai village visit — a short, guided walk-through experience, suitable for all ages.
Please note: Walking safaris and night drives are not permitted inside the national park. Ask about adding a night in a neighbouring conservancy if you’d like them.

Yes. Most nationalities require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Apply online at etakenya.go.ke at least 2 weeks before travel. The fee is USD 30 for most nationalities.
Meru is one of Kenya’s least-visited major parks — and that’s exactly the point. You’ll rarely share a sighting with another vehicle. The wildlife is equally impressive to more famous parks, and the atmosphere is completely different. It’s safari as it should be.
The Samburu Special Five — reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich — are northern species not found in Kenya’s southern parks. They’re endemic to the arid north, making Samburu the only place in Kenya to reliably spot all five.
Yes — Ol Pejeta offers guided close-up encounters with Najin and Fatu, the world’s last two northern white rhinos. This is one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences in Africa. Numbers are limited and advance booking is essential.
Nanyuki sits at around 1,900m altitude, so mornings and evenings can be genuinely cool, especially compared to Samburu or Meru. Pack a warm fleece or light jacket — you’ll thank yourself on early-morning drives.
Exceptional. Meru has over 300 species, Samburu over 450, and Ol Pejeta is equally rich. If you’re a birder, let us know and we’ll tailor the guiding accordingly.
Most light aircraft restrict luggage to 15kg (33lbs) in a soft-sided bag only — no rigid suitcases. This is a firm weight limit. All camps have laundry facilities so packing light is easy.
Yes. Game drives are suitable for all ages. Guided walks and rhino encounters are recommended for children aged 10 and above. Let us know in advance and we’ll adjust the pace and activities to suit your family.
The Kenyan Shilling (KES). USD is widely accepted at lodges and for tipping. Carry some cash for smaller purchases. ATMs are available in Nairobi and Nanyuki town.
